Can Consciousness and Manas Be Separated?

The manas is the basis for the defilement or purity of the six consciousnesses; when the manas is defiled, the six consciousnesses are inevitably defiled, and when the manas is pure, the six consciousnesses are inevitably pure. So, if the manas does not sever the view of self, can the mental consciousness sever the view of self? If the manas does not cut off the bonds of afflictions, does not sever the three fetters, can the mental consciousness eliminate the three fetters? Since the manas has not severed the three fetters, at the end of life, it is pulled by karmic obstructions to go to hell and undergo retribution. Where does the mental consciousness go at this time?

If the manas remains in the state of ignorance of an ordinary person, can the mental consciousness alone become a noble one who has attained the first fruition? Is such a person considered an ordinary being or a noble one who has realized the fruition? Or are they split into two? If someone harms oneself, and the manas is very stubborn about the self, insisting on taking revenge, how should the mental consciousness deal with this matter? When the mental consciousness is clear and understands the correct principle, having been influenced, it can reason with the manas, counter-influencing the manas, thereby suppressing and subduing the manas to prevent it from taking revenge and creating unwholesome karma. However, at the time of approaching death and during the intermediate state, the mental consciousness is weak and cannot guide or persuade the manas.

Can the mental consciousness guide and admonish the manas in dreams? If one cannot control oneself even in dreams, one will be even less able to control oneself at the time of approaching death. What does it mean to "control"? It means the mental consciousness, understanding the principle, tames the manas, rectifies the manas, and steers the direction of the manas correctly. Clearly, during the approach to death and in the intermediate state, the mental consciousness cannot control the manas. At this time, the manas will be pulled by karmic forces or by the power of vows, not guided by the mental consciousness. Therefore, if cultivation remains only at the stage of the mental consciousness and refuses to advance further, isn't it very dangerous and unreliable?
