How to Approach Matters Related to the Body’s Channels

When the energy channels in the head cause headaches, toothaches, or eye pain, how can this be resolved?

Yaoling's answer: If the qi truly cannot settle, you can focus your attention on the pit of the heart, or on the lumbar spine at the Mingmen point on the back, visualizing the white bones at the lumbar region. Alternatively, place your attention on the big toe of the left foot. In truth, if you genuinely practice the meditation on white bones, the mind naturally relaxes, and the qi will undoubtedly settle. Afterward, it is best to maintain only the right mindfulness that "all appearances are illusory," and let go of everything else. Naturally, all conditions will be released, and not a single thought will arise. The energy channels will clear very quickly. When you completely let go of this body, it will swiftly recover on its own.

If you harbor thoughts like "I want my body to feel more comfortable," it indicates that you are clinging to bodily sensations, discriminating, and grasping. What you must do is contemplate that "all appearances are illusory" — these bodily sensations are empty and cannot be obtained — and then release the bodily sensations. Do not cling to or discriminate them; do not let the mind adhere to bodily sensations. This is what it means to let go of bodily sensations. Similarly, apply the same release to all other states, such as external sounds. Do not let the mind adhere to them. At this moment, your mind remains lucid and clear, aware that you are not clinging to or discriminating against these appearances. In this way, the qi will settle very quickly, and the body will soon achieve the harmony of water and fire.

Of course, it is best not to skip the meditations on impurity and white bones. Otherwise, if you cling to the belief that the people around you are real, you will be unable to let go of your attachment to them. When the mind returns to its origin, the qi returns to its origin. If you grasp any state as real, it becomes a demonic hindrance, preventing you from returning to the origin. Therefore, contemplate that "all phenomena are devoid of self" to eradicate inverted attachments.
