How to Achieve Liberation from Suffering

During the process of cultivation, one gradually eradicates the ignorance of manas, eliminates afflictions, and removes the attachment to self. When manas ceases to be attached to the three realms, the phenomena of the three realms will cease. Ultimately, manas itself must cease, leading to entry into nirvana without residue, a state of profound tranquility and coolness. Ignorance is the fundamental and primary cause of the cycle of birth and death. If ignorance is not eradicated, the activities of manas do not cease, craving within the three realms remains unbroken, and the suffering of birth and death continues without end. However, sentient beings have grown accustomed to the suffering of birth and death. Like those who dwell long in a cesspool yet no longer perceive its stench, they do not recognize birth and death as great suffering, nor do they perceive the immense suffering within it. Clinging persistently to birth and death, when sentient beings lack the desire for enlightenment, even the Buddha cannot save them.
