The mind follows the environment, meaning external conditions can influence the inner heart, stirring waves within. One reason is insufficient concentration, another is a lack of wisdom, preventing one from correctly and rationally recognizing, analyzing, and facing the encountered phenomena. What people enjoy most is following their own hearts, regardless of whether that heart is good or evil—pleased when it aligns with their desires, pained when it opposes them. Because a person places too much emphasis on inner feelings, their judgment of people, events, and objects often becomes distorted. The same person might seem wonderful at one moment and terrible at another; this stems entirely from subjective feelings, not from an objective and impartial perspective. This demonstrates the illusory nature of our mind-consciousness and the illusory nature of phenomena—they are always in a state of constant change, not eternal or unchanging. They are not real, not reliable; we cannot fully depend on such things. Otherwise, when they vanish, we will feel utterly lost and bewildered.
